Recently I've traveled to Mammoth which is more near the Northern part of California to go snowboarding with my family. There were both positive and negative news when I arrived there. First, we got there at 2 in the morning because the drive was about 5 hours. Second, when we woke up in the morning it was pouring snow! I checked the weather, and according to it, there was supposed to be a storm in most of California and it seemed that included Mammoth. We played outside in the snow and went sledding in the snow. Unfortunately, that was all we could do since it was snowing so hard. We were able to take some pictures, though, while it was snowing.
Where I Stayed
I stayed at a cabin that my family and I were able to rent out during the weekend and the house was clean and cozy during the blizzard! Inside, we were able to play boardgames such as Apples to Apples and Uno. We also drank hot chocolate and chicken noodle soup, since that is a must in Mammoth!
Transportation
Since I live in the SoCal region we drove to Mammoth which was a 5 hour scenic drive to and back. The scenery is beautiful and a wonderful place to snap pictures on the road for sure. I was able to get this beautiful picture while we were searching for hot springs.
Eateries
Since Mammoth is more of a natural place and definitely isn't like New York, there aren'y many restaurants nearby besides the local grocery store to stock up on food for the period of time you'll be staying in Mammoth. We bought hot chocolate packets, chicken noodle soup cans, oatmeal, spam, eggs, milk, water bottles, butter, fruit snacks, and rice for our stay. I think that buying the groceries there in Mammoth is definitely the smarter thing to do because if you bring it with you from home then refrigerated goods might spoil unless you keep it in a cooler and plus, the food will only take up more space where all your layers to keep you warm should be.
Sight Seeing
During our stay, since its was during President's Day Weekend we only stayed there for 4 days. It was during winter so what we did there was build snowmen, which was so fun and easy to do since the snow there was so fluffy and fresh since it just snowed. We also went sledding on the many hills that we found there, and we also had snowball fights! Originally we were going to go snowboarding there, but unfortunately all the gear was all rented out so we were unable to rent them ourselves. When we tried to go tubing as an alternative to the snowboarding the tubing place was already about to close. As a suggestion from my own experience, make sure to either bring your own snowboarding gear or rent ahead of time when all the gear is not sold out. On our way back home we were going to searching for hot springs but once we got there, the 2 mile hike to the hot springs could've led us stuck in the storm that was coming in about 30 minutes when we arrived so we played it safe and were not able to find the hot springs for a relaxing, natural, hot tub.
